Campaign - LO4

Wymondham High School
Folly Road
Wymondham
Norfolk

14th December 2010

Dear Sir/Madem

The campaign part of the Diploma has done well in some parts but not as well in others. We haven't managed to raise many donations due to the fact that around this time of year a lot of people are getting charity bags through the door and its a convienient time to get rid of things before Christmas and people have only so much to give. But you could consider this idea if you havent already because it seems to work well. But on the other hand we have raised a big amount of awareness of your charity with our posters, leaflets and performances. Another good thing is have also enjoyed working on this topic and have learnt alot about your charity. Overall i think the campaign was successfull because we may not have gotten many donations but we all had a good time, learnt alot and raised awareness for your charity.

                     Yours faithfully
                      Kaidee

Letter to our charity

Wymondham High School
Folly Road
Wymondham
Norfolk

7th December 2010

Dear Quidenham Hospice

Im writing to you to update you on how we are doing with our campaign module. We've made posters and leaflets which have been put up and given out around school and we've also asked the school to get involved and to bring in any spare donations they have. We incorperated a part on the fact that you take electricals, which not many charity shops do, and we've tried to put on our poster that you do gift aid. We have put a date on our poster for any donations poeple have to be brought in on that day and we hope to bring you a big bagful of good quality donations. To raise awareness we have also made a t.v advert which might be shown in assemblies and form time to show the rest of the school what we are doing.
I'd just like to thank you for helping us with our project and we hop you've enjoyed working with us as much.

                  Yours faithfully, Kaidee.

Artefact - Todays Lesson - 7/12/10

In todays artefact lesson i carried on with my shoe. I cut the masking tape off of my shoe usuing a penknife which took forever and used that as a template to make the paper part of my shoe, which next week i will glue together and put a thin material round.  I need to remember to bring in some needles to stick onto my shoe before it's dipped in wax. Ive got a lot to do next week so i really need to concentrate.

23/11/10 - Artefact Lesson

In todays lesson we looked at a slideshow of artists which was aimed to inspire us and make us think about our shoe design. I wasnt going to change my shoe until i saw this slideshow and have now changed my shoe design, which instead of a checked shoe with a cotten reel as a heel, i have decided to stick some needles to a thin material and dip in wax to create a blurred vintage effect. We finished any plans we needed to finish and then went on to start creating our shoes. I had to make a shoe pattern for my 'Fashion Shoe' and i done this by getting a shoe template and covering it in masking tape, and cutting out the sections which would then fit together to form the shoe much like the net of a cube. Next lesson im continuing this and making the base of my shoe out of a thin material. I learnt about some interesting artists in this lesson and how u can make a shoe out of anything to look like anything, if u put your mind to it.

Health and Safety when making my shoe

When making my shoe i will be using materials such as sharp needles and wire which can be dangerous,to prevent injury make sure i keep my needles in the packet until i need them and if im using wire be careful to cut it with wire cutters and make sure its near no one elses face. I also need to be carfull when using the penknifes and need to keep away from everyone else and make sure im not jogged.

Paper Shoes

The paper shoes we made at the start of the year in Artefact were meant to help us later on when we were making our actual shoes. This is because we had to put the shoe together and design it ourselves which made us thinkabout what we wanted our shoes to look like. My paper shoe was blue and gold and i tried to give it a vintage edge with the rich waxy gold colour i used ... it reflected a little bit on the design of my actual shoe as i used the blue and the vintage effect but ive changed my shoe design now which you can read in another one of my newer blog posts but it still has the vintage edge and making the little paper shoe made me think independantly about how i wanted my shoe to look.

How our Campaigns going

Last week when donations were meant to be bought in none of the Campaigns got any donations and we think this is because we didnt advertise out Campaigns enough or for long enough and its considered 'uncool' for children our age to donate. And I think one of the reasons is that a lot of people couldnt be bothered to walk all the way to the Drama Studio at their lunch or breaktime and i think it would've helped if we had a different room for them to bring their donations to. So, now were going to change our target audience to the teachers, weve now started making posters to be read out in staff breafing so that all teachers know including the part time teachers which can hand their donations in to Mr.Cole or Mrs.Haythorpe if they arnt here on a tuesday. We hope the teachers will do a better job at donating than the students!

09/11/10 - Campaign Lesson

In todays lesson we carried on working on and improving our blogs by working through the learning objectives,i found out that i need to put evidence to my work to make it of a higher standard,we also talked about making a questionaire to give to the younger children to evaluate if they think we did well and what they think we could improve, which would be helpful when completing leanring objective 5.4 and we worked on improving out t.v adverts and performances ready to film them next week.

09/11/10 - Artefact Lesson

In todays lesson we went over what we should be doing and putting in our blogs and how to improve them,we looked at exemplery blogs and work and i gained a few ideas of how i could make my work better;i need to be more creative with how i present it and put a little big more effort in e.g instead of writing the bare minimum add more to my work to make it of a higher standerd.Afterwards we carried on planning our shoe and i went into the i.c.t suite and printed off some pictures for my plan, and then started to improve my blog after what was said in lesson.

Questionaire

This Questionaire will measure how well we think and how well the year 2's think we have done with our Campaign and will measure its success:

Theatre in Education

Theatre in Education is using Drama or Media to help children learn about something i.e charities and sharing.
In the campaign part of my Diploma we are using Theatre in Education to teach young year 2 children how to share and give their old good quality toys and clothes (and maybe even electrical goods if your donating to Quidenham) to charity.

We were inspired to do this because recently we had the 'Tiny Giants theatre conpany' come into school and give us a performance called 'Perfect' and we thought it would've been a good way to teach younger children.

Shoe Work

These are the pictures from when we did the work on how shoes used to be made, ive written up the factory information by hand but im putting the pictures on here.

Video Journal - How Would I Use It

I found Tuesday interesting because i learnt that i could express myself in other ways other than just writing,i could do a Video Journal. On Tuesday i learnt what an editing script was and even tried doing one myself which was quite hard because it was very fast,i also learnt that i could do different kinds of filming in my video journal other than just filming myself talking to the camera;i could use it so you dont see my face, but you see what i see.

I would use a video journal in Artefact to film all the different stages of when i'm making my shoe - for example, i could film myself  during lesson and then tell the camera what i found difficult and easy about that lesson and what i will need to do next lesson. I could use a video journal in Campaign by filming any shop visits and then talk to the camera about what i have learnt from that visit and also how our advert is coming along,i could even put a film of us doing our advert into my video journal.

What happned in todays lesson - 02/11/10

In todays lesson we made a final plan of the activities and games we would be doing with the year 2's and focused alot on how we would get them to calm down or be quiet,by using techniques suck as,putting their hands on their head and counting to ten, or when a year 10 shouts 'hip' the year 2's shout 'hop',basically to engage them and get their attention again.
One of the games we have chosen to do is 'Find the toys' which is when the year 10's hide all of the toys in a classroom and the year 2's go in and find a toy - if they find more than one they have to give their toy to someone who hasn't found one yet, making the whole idea of sharing or 2 "donating" clear to them, because the point of the whole day is to get the to donate their old good quality toys to charity which is sharing, but we've used games such as this to get the point accross first.
An activity we have planned is where two of the year 10's are acting out a scene where they are not sharing something, and when the year 2's see that they are not sharing they will shout 'STOP' and will tell the year 10's how to do it correctly and if they wanted, join in themselves.

Fashion Illustration

This was the Fashion Illustration i drew for Artefact, its a high heeled shoe with a gap in the middle and a zip up the front - based on on a pair of my own shoes.I used watercolours to paint it;i was thinking about painting it red but i thought if i was going to buy the shoe myself...id prefer it in a darker colour.

3.2 - Generate appropriate ideas.

Investigating a campaign - Childline

The main message behind this campaign  is to stop child abuse of any form, they use ideas such as 'full stop' which is a green smiley face representing a full stop and the end of child abuse.
Obviosuly the target audience for this particular campaign would be children up to the age of about 17 but it also helps adults or other young children to report of any child abuse they know about
The main methods used to appeal to the target audience (children) is big bold writing, the idea of 'put a full stop to child abuse now' using the green smiley face and making there website and t.v adverts as child friendly/appealing as possible. I remember when someone dressed as a green smiley face used to bring in rulars and rubbers into primary school and told us about the charity and what it does.
This campaign is a very successfull campaign with lots of child abuse stopped each day. It's now national and so big that i even remember the number without needing to look for it,which is a very good thing in my eyes,if they can get children like me,that arnt even being abused,to remember something important about their charity
.

Learning objective 5.1 - Understand the nature and purpose of campaigns.

Step-by-Step plan to making my shoe.

Week 1,Step 1:
I will write down my inital ideas and what materials etc i think il be using on my shoe and whether it will be high heel, flat or a mens shoe. I will also need to get my materials.
Week 2,Step 2:

Will finish any planning that needs to be done and will have materials needed to create my shoe,i will start to modrock a shoe template.
Week 3,Step 3:
Carry on any mod-rocking that needs to be done, wait for that to dry and if i have time add on any material that can be added.
Week 4,Step 4:
Start adding materials to my shoe and add on the heel which will be a cotten reel instead of an actual heel because the shop im designing a shoe for is the needlework shop.
Week 5,Step 5:
Finish adding materials and any little parts that need to be added&generally finish the shoe off.
Week 6,Step 6:
Write the health and safety regulations out and whether we had to use anything that could have been dangerous&if needed (and if i have enough time) finish any parts of my shoe that haven been finished.
Week 7,Step 7:
Make sure my shoe is dry and finished and take it to the needlework shop in town.

The above plan im now changing because after being showed a powerpoint on artists i have decided to change the design of my shoe to the following;
im going to make it out of a thin material which can be dipped in wax,but before i dip it into the wax im sticking needles to the thin material so u can just see them through the wax which i think links in well with the needlework shop as it does go with the name, but i might also add more materials other than needles and if i do il update this blog post further down.
By updating my plan i am using learning objective 3.4 (be able to moniter my own creativity)

Week 1; Write my plan and initial ideas down
Week 2; Make sure my plan is finished and work out what materials i will need to get for making my shoe.

Week 3; Start to make my shoe pattern..using a shoe template
Week 4; Finish doing the pattern of my shoe and cover it in a thin material
Week 5; Add the needles and any other things to the thin material to be dipped in wax next week.

Week 6; Dip my shoe in wax and leave to dry
Week 7; Make sure my shoe is done and take to the needlework in town.Update my plan if needed.

Leaflet for our campaign

This is the leaflet we created for out campaign. It contains information about the charity, and will hopefully inspire people to donate. It will be one of our main ways of broadcasting our Campaign.

Storyboard&Tv advert

Our advert:

Scene One: (black and white)
A young girl lying in a hospital bed, her mum gets told by the doctors her daughter may not live for much longer due to a serious terminal illness. We see the doctor walk away, and the mother cry.

Scene Two:
A man dumps a bag of donations outside a charity shop and it turns to colour and a ‘kerching’ noise plays.

Scene Three:
The girl gets out of bed happily because she now has enough money to go on a day out with her family and she immediately steps into a park and she is running along holding balloons with her family.

Scene Four:
The man who dumps the donations stands up and says: ‘Look how easy it is to put a smile on a child’s face’. And ‘don’t wait, go donate’ appears on the screen.

This advert is a way to broadcast our campaign which helps complete learning objective 5.2

Careers evet at OPEN

Last week we went to a careers event at OPEN,Norwich which basically consisted of people talking to us about their experainces, their jobs&how they got into the creative industries. There was music, dance, performace, grapic design&animation.
The most intresting for me was probably the performance part because im very interested in acting and would like to get into it,but i found it its not that easy, but once you get going you'll start to be offered jobs.
The main message of the day was to put yourself out there and be different from everyone else. The speakers also said we'd need luck and have to have contacts with people in the creative industries.
I think the day would've been better it it was more hands on with us getting involved, but i did get something out of it and some parts were interesting.

Homework - Learning Objectives

On the creative&media diploma we weill be discussing artifacts and how they are made,we will also be making our own.
We will be studying how to create a campaign and work out how they are planned down to the smaller details of posters and sources of adverts.
We will be studying types of performance and how they have chyanged over time and hyow audience effect this.

Quidenham Hospice.

Today we went into Wymondham town centre and went to see our campaign charity, quidenham hospice,to ask them about how we could help improve their donations and what they needed more of.They told us that they didnt need more of one paticular thing but they needed all-round donations and made it clear that they take electrical goods,so we might concentrate on bringing in more of them.We asked questions about what kind of stuff theyd like us to advertise about their charity and they were very eager for us to advertise 'Gift Aid' which gives them an extra 28p for every pound they get, from the goverment,so they asked if we could make that clear on our poster. The staff were really nice and genuinly seemed to like volunteering there, saying that they enjoyed all the nice people they met and felt good about helping a charity.

Also, the Quidenham Hospice are helping us complete learning objective 5.3 because we have contacted them because they are invlolved in broadcasting our campaign.

Needlework Shop.

Today we went into Wymondham town centre and visited our artefact buisness which was the needlework shop.We spoke to the lady in charge,Janice Alms and asked her questions about what she sold (wool, curtains, dress fabrics, patch work cottens, embroidery thread etc...) and how long the buissness had been running (33 years). We found out that the materials wernt imported by them, they brought their materials off of  a complany who imported them from Germany. We went round and filmed the shop seeing all the materials they sold and were suprised to find that there were more customers than we anticipated. The staff were nice and seemed to be quite busy but had time to answer our questions and we found out most of what we needed to.The visit made me think about how my shoe would look and all the different materials that could be used, not nessiccerily just fabric,i could use buttons, needles, cotten reels, beads and other things like that and influenced me that to use other materials other than a pretty patterned fabric.

Information on my business:
Cross Stitch Needle shop trades under our Busy Lizzie Crafts banner - we are a well established small family buisiness based in Norfolk in Southern England - our customer base is worldwide and we are a member of the Federation of small businesses.
Cross Stitch Needle shop specialises in the needles used for cross stitch and counted thread embroidery.

How im doing in artefact

In the artefact part of the diploma i have learnt alot about shoes and how they're made and how they've changed over time, ive also learnt how to make felt which i thought i wouldnt enjoy but i actually found it really helpful and interesting, and so did my mum when i got got home and told her what id been doing,i was really proud of the felt i made and would like to use it on the shoe we are now designing.I enjoy art and didnt think thered be much of it on the course but im happy there is.

how im doing in campaign

In the campaign part of my diploma i think im doing well but could contribute and share my ideas more.Im really enjoying the course because im not just in a classroom writing in a book,im going out and doing things that i wouldn't have been doing on a normal GCSE.I think the charity project we're doing at the moment is interesting and has given me a different perspective on charities and charity shops and i hope the rest of the course will be like this.

Learning objective 4

Thrughout the process of planning my campaign you must regularly moniter my progress and examine my achievments and aims.
I must constantly ask myself if im achieving what i set out to achieve and if not, why? Then i should ask what i need to do to either get nearer to achieving my intentions.
I must actively use my reflections to inform, shape or modify my work as i think is appropriate.
When the campaign is over i should include an investigation into the effectiveness of my campaign. This could be carried out by gathering feedback from my target audience using methods such as questionnaires or focus groups.

Shoe Designers

Red or Dead was started by Wayne Andrew Hemingway Esq. and his wife, Geraldine Hemingway in 1982. They had no money, so they emptied their wardrobes and sold them on Camden market one Saturday and before they knew it they had 16 stalls. Before long they had a decent sized company and came across Dr Marten; who changed them from being a work-wear item to something fashionable all around the world.

Christian Louboutin who was born on January 7, 1964 is a footwear designer who launched his line of high-end women's shoes in France in 1991. Since 1992, his designs have incorporated the shiny, red-lacquered soles that have become his signature. On March 27,2007, Christian Louboutin filed an application for U.S. trademark protection of this red sole design:
Compared to a riding boot:

A riding boot is a boot made to be used for horse riding. The classic boot comes high enough up the leg to prevent the leathers of the saddle from pinching the leg of the rider, has a sturdy toe to protect the rider's foot when on the ground, and has a distinct heel to prevent the foot from sliding through the stirrup. The sole is smooth or lightly textured to avoid being caught on the tread of the stirrup in the event of a fall.
The modern riding boot is relatively low-heeled, with a heel of less than one inch, though historically a higher heel was common, as it has always been critically important for riding boots to prevent the foot from slipping through the stirrup. Today, only some styles of cowboy boot retain a higher heel than other modern riding boots.
Materials:

Traditionally, English riding boots are made of smooth leather, usually cowhide, or occasionally pigskin, and most show boots remain like this due to the classic look. However, synthetic leather, vinyl and other materials are becoming more common. Quality of leather varies, with softer, finer-quality increasing the value of the boot. For formal wear, patent leather is occasionally seen, particularly in jodhpur boots designed for Saddle seat horse show classes. For casual riding, riders often wear well-worn show boots, but also may take advantage of new boot designs modeled after the athletic shoe or hiking boot that have been created, using space age synthetics and breathable materials to create what essentially is a "tennis shoe with a heel."

charity work

Dear the Wymondham and Attleborough Mercury,
We are writing to ask you if we can put an advertisement in your newspaper. We are studying creative and media at school and one of our tasks is to help a local charity shop by creating posters, leaflets and adverts and we’d be very greatfull if you’d consider putting the enclosed advert into your newspaper. This would be helping the local charity, Quidenham Children’s Hospice, to raise donations and gain income.

Charity Shop.

In the video we watched Mary Portas go into a charity shop and find reasons why it isn't making as much money as it should and start to make changes to it.The charity shop she went into only sold about 15% of it's donations as people donating were donating rubbish and junk and the staff had to pay for the bins to be emptied twice a week which costs £90,also the stuff was all over the place and not very organised, she changed all this and now the chartiy shop makes alot more money. We discussed how we could improve the local charity shops and we came up with things like; posters, leaflets, talking to local newspapers and better window displays to make it more customer friendly:).
